I spent the 4th of July with friends of friends in Tacoma overlooking Commencement Bay. From the house we could see the barge where they launch the fireworks from. Needless to say, this was quite the spot for fireworks photography. Good party too...

Fireworks photography is actually surprisingly simple. ISO 100, f/11, bulb. A sturdy tripod is needed. A cable release makes life easier -- especially if your tripod is a bit on the flimsy side. Start the exposure when the sky is relatively dark during a pause between bursts. Close the shutter when you've captured a couple of bursts. Take lots of shots. You get what you get...
