Mt. St. Helens

Sunrise at Mt. St. Helens. Because of the overcast sky not quite as spectacular as the one on Mt. Rainier.

There are some quite peculiar lava tubes in the underground around Mt. St. Helens. You can walk through some of them. They're actually quite interesting.

Lava tube

It is very, very dark down there and a little water seeps through the ground above you. The temperature is pretty much the same all year round, 42-44°F (~5-6°C). If you plan to visit the lava tubes, bring a warm raincoat and a gas lantern (a flashlight won't do it!) You can also rent lanterns at the entrance for a modest $2 fee.
