Okolehao Sailing Trip

Setting the Sails

The first weekend of February I went sailing with Arthur and a crew of fine people. We had absolutely NO wind on Saturday. So we basically floated around on Puget Sound, drank beer, enjoyed life and the late Winter sun.

Rail Meat

I picked up a few new words and terms on that trip. One of them was rail meat. In order to get the boat going you apparently need to put ballast on one side of the boat. People make great ballast...

Rail Meat

More rail meat. We had an eight gallon keg of beer aboard and we actually thoght of using that as ballast. But we couldn't really find an optimal position for it. We needed access to the beer, it should be in a good position for ballast, and we did NOT want to drop it into the Sound.

Myself

Me, myself, and I. All three of us drinking beer...

Seattle Sunshine

It rained most of the night. When we woke up Sunday morning the sky looked pretty bad. It didn't rain, though. In Seattle this counts as a sunny day... :-)

Sailing at Last

No rain but plenty of wind! We raised the jib and main sail and reached a cruising speed of about seven knots. Not bad at all...

Submarining

I don't know if Marc thought Okolehao was a submarine. We sailed with the railing under the water line for quite some time... What an awesome trip.
